Lightweight. One of the most important core values of Donkervoort Automobielen in the past 40 years. Carbon fiber plays a major role in this and results from the continuous search for lighter, stronger and safer (vehicle) constructions.
Donkervoort has many years of experience in the design and production of composite components, intended for its lightweight and pure sports cars. For example, 95 percent of the bodywork of the current production model consists of this super strong and ultra-light material. To be able to produce even lighter and stronger carbon components, Donkervoort has developed the patented EX-CORE® carbon fiber technology in-house in recent years. The single shot production technology ensures that both the inner and outer shell and the foam core can be produced in one go. In order to be able to achieve this, not only the foam core and the production technology were developed, but also a proprietary tooling technology with surface heating was developed.
Donkervoort Advanced Materials & Composites has rapidly become one of the most important and fastest developing departments within Donkervoort. The production of both the D8 GTO-RS and the D8 GTO-40 is in full swing. Both models have been and are sold very well and Donkervoort now has a waiting list of more than a year. In order to be able to meet the increasing demand more quickly and to prepare ourselves for the future, we are continuously working on further optimizing the production process.
In addition, EX-CORE was recently selected for the European Innovation Grant in High-Tech Materials and Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, which gives us the opportunity to scale up faster, to develop more quickly and to prepare and test the production method for mass production.
