In December of the past year we announced the expansion of Donkervoort to Germany. This coming spring Donkervoort Automobielen GmbH – a wholly owned subsidiary of Donkervoort Automobielen B.V. – will open its new establishment in Germany on the Bilster Berg Drive Resort. In this newsletter we would like to inform you about the unique location and the great variety of possibilities and activities this new establishment will offer.
Bilster Berg Drive Resort
The Bilster Berg Drive Resort was opened in June of 2013 and is a luxurious test and event circuit, located on the property of a prior ammunition depot of the British army in the German Federal State North Rhine-Westphalia. The lay-out of the 4.2 kilometres circuit was designed by the well-known architect Hermann Tilke (designer of many F1 circuits), in close collaboration with the legendary rally driver Walter Röhrl. With its 19 turns and 44 elevation changes, the circuit is a challenge for both racing driver and car, which was rapidly recognised by the experts; the circuit was recently elected “Circuit of the Year 2013″.
The new Donkervoort establishment is located in one of the former ammunition halls and has a direct connection to the circuit. The hall, which is approximately 400 m², is currently under complete renovation in order to meet the needs of Donkervoort.
Donkervoort Automobielen GmbH
Donkervoort Automobielen GmbH is the sole property of Donkervoort Automobielen B.V. and will be a smaller version of the factory in Lelystad. The establishment will be under the management of the Austrian Alexander Thorstensen, who was responsible for, amongst others, the international sales at Donkervoort for the past years, and who will start off by running his own team. Naturally – as a matter of course – many exchanges will take place between the location in Germany and the factory in The Netherlands.
The German Donkervoort establishment will become an important sales point for Germany and the surrounding countries. Also, existing Donkervoort drivers can go there for the maintenance, service and repairs on their cars. Over time the team of mechanics, which will be trained in Lelystad, will also add the final assembly of the new Donkervoorts intended for the German market to its activities.
The Bilster Berg Drive Resort is the choice circuit for Track Day devotees. For that reason Donkervoort will regularly organise (participation in) Track Days for its clients, as well as support drivers through its Track Day Support. In addition the subsidiary offers various opportunities for Track Day preparation and storage-maintenance combinations of Donkervoorts.
The location at Bilster Berg also perfectly lends itself as an extension at Donkervoort Events, the branch of industry responsible for events with and around Donkervoort, for companies and their relations.
And naturally the circuit will be fully utilised for the many future Donkervoort developments. All in all, perhaps indirectly, the circuit will only increase the quality of every Donkervoort. Also the new projects of Donkervoort Racing still to be launched will first be tested at Bilster Berg.
And there will definitely be new projects in the future…! We will keep you informed…!
