Not just a car; it’s an experience

Power rating

Donkervoort D8 GTO

With a bit of luck, you may see one. On the road or on the track. The Donkervoort D8 GTO. With a power-to-weight ratio of less than two, it is one of the fastest street-legal cars in the world. Boasting a power rating of 340 to 380 hp and 450 Nm of torque starting at around 1600 rpm. Significantly larger than its predecessors, yet – at around 700 kg – hardly heavier and surprisingly easy to drive.

A Donkervoort is not just a car; it’s an experience. And that term has taken on new meaning with the GTO.

You are welcome to come and see it first-hand. The Donkervoort D8 GTO. In our factory in Lelystad or at our location at the Bilster Berg Drive Resort. Donkervoort: for over 36 years, the only Dutch company developing and building sports cars the way they are meant to be. No nonsense & no compromise.

Composite components

There is perhaps no area in which Donkervoort Automobielen have advanced more significantly over the past decades than in the use of carbon fiber, a lightweight yet ultra-strong material. Today, for the D8 GTO, around 90% of the body is made of this high-tech material.

All the composite/carbon fiber components are produced in-house at Donkervoort. Through various collaborative arrangements with the aerospace industry, Donkervoort is in a position to employ the latest techniques and developments in the field of composites directly in the D8 GTO.

Production process

One of the most important elements of a sports car is the chassis. Besides strength and safety, a rigid chassis provides good handling. Starting with construction of the chassis, Donkervoort operates on the principle that light weight is essential; the entire chassis of the D8 GTO weighs just 54 kg!

Donkervoort laser cuts, welds and produces the tubular steel chassis in-house. The chassis consists mainly of triangular constructions and is welded by specialists using a copper alloy. Besides extreme precision, thanks to the laser technology, this welding technique ensures minimal distortion during welding, which guarantees a perfect fit and optimum rigidity. This makes it possible for the chassis to meet the very high quality standards that are necessary for the integration of the chassis with the carbon fiber composite panels. The combination of the tubular steel frame with carbon fiber panels provides the very high weight-to-stiffness ratio. In addition to enhanced passive safety, it also provides the ideal starting point for a design that takes road-holding performance to an even higher level.

Exterior

The GTO is clearly a size larger than its predecessors, the closed GT and the open D8 270RS. About 35 centimetres longer and 15 centimetres wider, to be exact.

Only sharing 5% of the parts with the D8 270RS and about 30% with the much more recent GT. A milestone in the 34-year history of Donkervoort. With techniques directly derived from the aviation and aerospace industry. The first in a new generation of Donkervoort automobiles, according to Joop Donkervoort. The reason he also put the chassis number back to ‘0’ starting with the GTO.

Technical specifications

The culmination of over 35 years of Donkervoort has led to the extremely brutal D8 GTO. With nearly 400 bhp at less than 700 kilograms a rocket that roars from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds.

Weight695kg
Power380bhp
Acceleration2,8seconds 0-100 km/h

Interior

The interior of the D8 GTO reflects the true identity of the car as a purebred race car. Unnecessary features have been omitted in favour of a car that is as light as possible and provides corresponding performance.

The culmination of this approach is perhaps the fully-equipped carbon fiber dashboard, which with its minimalist yet high-tech switches evokes an association with aviation. The dashboard also includes a special race-module switch and traction control button which can be adjusted to the driver’s preferences.

The upholstery of the D8 GTO is entirely custom made, in keeping with the customer’s taste. One can choose from hundreds of colours, different types of leather, and a wide range of stitching and patterns; this is the ultimate way to personalise your Donkervoort even further.
