The Designer: Meet the Mastermind behind the new Donkervoort P24RS

Thursday 18/09/2025

Jordi Wiersma

Want to know what is at the intersection of Latin passion and Dutch precision — where Spanish expressionism blends seamlessly with Dutch practicality? That’s where you’ll find Donkervoort design guru.

For almost two decades, Jordi Wiersma has been the man in charge of Donkervoort’s interior and exterior design. Alongside him, Amko Leenarts, who advises on design, and Denis Donkervoort, who sits next to Jordi to determine the final design direction, help ensure every decision reflects both Donkervoort’s heritage and its future.

Wiersma is half Dutch and half Spanish, and splits his time between Bilbao, Barcelona and Donkervoort HQ in Lelystad.
The Spanish think I’m Dutch, the Dutch think I’m Spanish, the designers think I’m an engineer and the engineers think I’m a designer,” Wiersma said.
I’ve always had this duality, and it comes out in my design ideas, because I draw from both sides, but not consciously.

Wiersma and Donkervoort

And who better to smoothly blend the signatures, quirks and language of Donkervoort design with rigid engineering demands than someone who slides effortlessly between the polar opposites of Spanish and Dutch cultures?
There are similarities between moving between Spanish and Dutch cultures, and moving between the artistic side of design and the hard engineering points,” he said.
Spain is a lot more dramatic and workably messy if you compare it to The Netherlands. People are expressive and things always seem to be happening around you, where Dutch people quietly go about their business, until they suddenly don’t.”

Fortunately for Wiersma, Donkervoort is the perfect example of a company that goes about its business, straight and true, with an expressive side. And most of our customers are exactly the same way.

At Donkervoort, every single update and improvement becomes a pursuit of performance excellence. The team loves the work so much that each refinement turns into a friendly challenge to outdo ourselves — always with the same goal: to make the car purer to drive while staying true to what Donkervoort stands for. That’s why even the quirky details matter. They’re not flourishes for their own sake; they’re proof of how much we love what we do and how carefully we protect the Donkervoort ethos.

Better aerodynamics are free, weightless horsepower.

New Engine, New Design Challenges

A great example of this can be seen in the aerodynamics of the Donkervoort P24 RS, which were integrated from the very beginning. “Every millimetre of the bonnet has been designed to let more air in and more air out again,” Wiersma explained. “We moved the exhaust tips from the back to the side because they can help us with airflow around the front wheels. Better aerodynamics are free, weightless horsepower.” And because feeding and cooling the PTC engine demanded aerodynamic analysis from day one, it also played a critical early role in identifying how to get more downforce from the front bodywork while still delivering more underbonnet air. Even the headlights were designed with aerodynamics in mind.

Our "Family" and the Duality of the P24 RS

We also place immense value on the voices of our customers — our family. Their feedback shapes our thinking, validates our instincts and often sparks the next improvement. It’s a conversation that never stops.

Jordi has been part of that conversation since 2006, growing alongside Donkervoort for almost two decades. His journey mirrors ours: evolving, sharpening and remaining unmistakably Donkervoort.

And the duality at the heart of the car has been fully achieved: on one side, a sleek, elegant supercar for everyday roads and real life; on the other, a machine that can head to the circuit and transform into a track-ready beast — built to chase records. Jordi Wiersma’s enthusiasm is ours, too, and we can’t wait to show you the result soon.

NEXT UP IN CHAPTER 3

From design to testing — Chapter 3 reveals how every surface, system and gram of the P24 RS serves a purpose.

Including what it takes to integrate and test the all-new PTC engine — shaping the way the car moves, feels and responds.
