record breaking

The D8 270 RS put Donkervoort on the global sportscar map, because it was in this car that Michael Düchting broke the long-standing Porsche production car lap record of the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.

Its performance was unmatched by any street legal sportscar, including anything from the most prominent supercar brands in the world.

It blasted to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds, stopped from 100km/h to zero in just 2.4 seconds and raced out to a 245km/h top speed.

The 1.8-litre turbocharged Audi motor was good for 198kW (270hp) and enthusiasts snapped up all 25 D8 270 RS models within days of the car’s announcement.

Amongst its technical improvements were bigger oil, air and water coolers, a reinforced gearbox, new high-low speed shock absorbers and new tyres.

It was clearly the best car Donkervoort had ever built, and a 270hp D8 Audi E-gas soon became a permanent addition to the lineup.
